
This whole experience just struck me right in the feels and the whole chain of events was a journey.

I just wanted to reach into the book and protect them against what are often dire and tense odds. The hero and heroine, Eva and Angelo, are so strong and lovable. Side note, I love the Thorn Birds and writing-wise it may be more technically proficient but after 10+ years I’m still bitter about many turns in the storyline.įrom Sand And Ash has a similar theme but more satisfying development and resolution. Some aspects of this novel reminded me of The Thorn Birds but set in WW2, and has a more uplifting instead of enraging storyline. With the world at war and so many in need, Angelo and Eva face trial after trial, choice after agonizing choice, until fate and fortune finally collide, leaving them with the most difficult decision of all.

With the Gestapo closing in, Angelo hides Eva within the walls of a convent, where Eva discovers she is just one of many Jews being sheltered by the Catholic Church.īut Eva can’t quietly hide, waiting for deliverance, while Angelo risks everything to keep her safe.
