This has some serious Blair Witch Project and the Lost Colony of Roanoke vibes. Intense and exceptionally creepy, Sten does a wonderful job combining fear and curiosity into a page-turning descent into madness. Soon though, things start to go wrong, and as her team begins disappearing one by one, she realizes the town isn’t as abandoned as she originally thought. It is fast paced and will keep you guessing.Īlice is an aspiring documentary filmmaker who takes a small team to the abandoned town of Silvertjärn to uncover its secrets of how an entire village disappeared without a trace. She persuades a team to go and investigate and immediately unusual and threatening things begin to happen and they feel they are being watched.what IS the secret this abandoned village is hiding? Classic Scandinavian noir with a totally unexpected ending. Her grandmother's entire family disappeared and what remained was a dead woman tied to a tree and an infant found crying in a building. Alice Lindstedt, a documentary filmmaker, has been obsessed with the missing/vanished residents of the town dubbed "The Lost Village" since childhood. I wouldn’t read it right before visiting any abandoned villages, though.A delicious and creepy story, which reminded me a bit of watching the Blair Witch Project movie. Nothing too graphic or disturbing, with some mystery and drama mixed in. Overall, a very entertaining read if you enjoy light horror. It’s not a supernatural story, but I enjoyed the elements of the supernatural subtly woven in. Even though she has a small role in this story, Elsa was by far my favorite character. I thought the explanation of how the whole village disappeared was actually very plausible and fitting. You begin to question your own sanity along with the characters. The suspense in this book is off the charts. Alice will eventually discover the truth of what happened to her family, but at what cost? Suspicious things begin to happen and they start to doubt each other, until it becomes clear that someone is hunting them. The silence is unnerving but even worse is when they begin to realize they are not actually alone.

Alice takes four friends with her to visit this village and make a documentary, hoping to discover the truth.

In 1959, her grandmother’s family and the entire village simply disappeared, everyone except for a body left in the square and an abandoned newborn. Alice has been obsessed with The Lost Village since she first heard her grandmother’s stories.
